Itraconazole works by inhibiting Cytochrome P-450 dependent enzymes, blocking the synthesis of ergosterol—an essential component of fungal cell membranes. This leads to disruption in cell wall structure, abnormal permeability, and fungal cell death.
SUBA (Super Bio-Available) technology enhances drug absorption by forming a solid dispersion in a polymer matrix. This improves solubility, providing better bioavailability compared to conventional itraconazole.

✅ Description:
Itracon SUBA is prescribed for a broad range of fungal infections, including:
- Oropharyngeal and vulvovaginal candidiasis
- Pityriasis versicolor, tinea pedis, tinea cruris, tinea corporis, tinea manuum
- Onychomycosis
- Systemic fungal infections: candidiasis, aspergillosis, cryptococcosis (including cryptococcal meningitis), histoplasmosis
- Maintenance therapy in AIDS patients to prevent relapse of fungal infections
- Prophylaxis of fungal infections during prolonged neutropenia

Available strengths: 65 mg, 100 mg, 130 mg, 200 mg
Vulvovaginal candidiasis: 200 mg twice daily for 1 day (or 130 mg twice daily for 1 day)
Pityriasis versicolor: 200 mg once daily for 7 days (or 65 mg twice daily for 7 days)
Tinea corporis/cruris: 100 mg daily for 15 days OR 200 mg daily for 7 days
Tinea pedis/manuum: 100 mg daily for 30 days
Oropharyngeal candidiasis: 100 mg daily for 15 days (increase in AIDS/neutropenic patients)
Onychomycosis: Continuous—200 mg daily for 3 months OR Pulse—200 mg twice daily for 7 days, repeated after 21 days (fingernails: 2 courses; toenails: 3 courses)
Systemic infections:
- Aspergillosis: 200 mg daily for 2–5 months (higher dose if disseminated)
- Candidiasis: 100–200 mg daily for 3 weeks to 7 months
- Cryptococcosis: 200 mg daily for 10 weeks; meningitis—200 mg twice daily for 2–6 months
- Histoplasmosis: 200 mg once or twice daily for 8 months
- Maintenance in AIDS: 200 mg daily
- Prophylaxis in neutropenia: 200 mg daily until recovery
Doses should be individualized based on infection type, severity, and clinical response.

- Common: Nausea, abdominal pain, indigestion, constipation, headache, dizziness
- Occasional: Elevated liver enzymes, menstrual disorders, skin rashes, allergic reactions
- Serious (rare): Hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice, peripheral neuropathy, Stevens-Johnson syndrome
- Prolonged use: Hypokalaemia, edema, hair loss

- Terfenadine, astemizole, cisapride (risk of arrhythmia)
- Statins (simvastatin, lovastatin)
- Oral midazolam, triazolam
- Rifampin, phenytoin, phenobarbital
- Calcium channel blockers, digoxin

- Concomitant use with rifampin or strong enzyme-inducing drugs

- Absorption is reduced with low gastric acidity → take after a full meal.
